Be Kind to Animals

This graphic was created for the ARL's spring youth workshops. All animals are individuals, was the theme of the three day series. To tie into the theme, I designed this graphic to illustrate the wide variety of unique animals that are cared for, and treated as individuals, at the shelter.

This handout was used during the 2017 legislative session to help educate legislators about the importance of newspapers in Iowa communities.

Animal Rescue League of Iowa Impact Report

While working as the Humane Education Coordinator for the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, I designed and created content for the organization's interactive 2015 Impact Report.

Title Page

More than a Number

This multi-state object allows site users to click photos to learn about the impact each unique program has on the community. Programs include humane education, cruelty intervention, adoption, volunteer, pet behavior, return to owner, foster, spay/neuter, Iowa Pet Alert, Animal Care and Control, law enforcement training, transfers, community outreach, TheraPets, personality assessments and extended vet care.

Intakes

Illustrates the Animal Rescue League of Iowa and Animal Care and Control's intake numbers in the form of a graph and a table. This page shows intake numbers by animal type as well as top reasons pets enter our shelter. Each of the top intake reasons has a clickable tab that allows us to go into into further detail about the topic.

Challenges

This page was used to show the challenges we face as an organization. These challenges include trap-neuter-return, affordable vet care, pet-friendly housing, other shelters, animal welfare laws, breed regulations, and humane discourse.

Outcomes

Illustrates the Animal Rescue League of Iowa and Animal Care and Control's outcome numbers in the form of a graph and a table. This page shows outcome numbers by animal type and educates the public about the 5 Freedoms.

The Political Party

This was a project I worked on for an organization that held multiple progressive forums across the state of Iowa. I designed their logo, promotional posters and social media graphics.

St. Cloud State University 2013 Hockey

Screen shots of a digital app I built and designed for Times Media. The app features articles published throughout St. Cloud State University's 2012-2013 hockey season. The articles were transformed into a 22 chapter interactive compilation with features including; pull-down infoboxes, photo galleries, videos, audio clips, full screen photos and scrolling score recaps.

ARL Easter Campaign

Each year the ARL experiences an influx of rabbit, chicken and duck intakes after the Easter holiday. This campaign was executed to remind potential adopters that pets are a big responsibility, even after the holiday novelty wears off.

Iowa Heroes

Screen shots of a digital app designed for the Des Moines Register. The project focused on 13 World War II veterans living in Iowa. Each veteran is featured on a scrolling page with interactive features including videos, clickable cutlines, photo galleries and pull-down bios.

These banners were designed for the ARL's retail booth at the Iowa State Fair. They were hung on the wall behind the register. Each banner represents a way to help homeless animals in our community.

The Night That Shook Des Moines

Screen shots of a digital app I designed for the Des Moines Register. The project focused on the 20 year anniversary of 1992's Drake Diner Murders. I carefully designed the 6 chapter interactive app to conceptualize the original print design while navigating the reader to access to videos, clickable cutlines, scrolling chapters and historical photos.
